Actor Rajinikanth last graced the silver screens in the action thriller Coolie helmed by Lokesh Kanagaraj with actors Nagarjuna Akkineni, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, and Shruti Haasan in pivotal roles. The Vettaiyan actor will soon begin to shoot the final schedule of his upcoming action-comedy drama Jailer 2. Story teller Nelson Dilipkumar, who was in directors’ cockpit for the first installment, has written and is directing the second part as well.
Actress Ramya Krishnan who played the actor’s wife in the first part will be reprising her role in the sequel. Actor S J Suryah is said to be essaying the antagonist part in the drama. So far, the shoot for the entertainer has taken place across various locations in Chennai, Coimbatore, Kozhikode, Palakkad, Attappadi, Mysore, and Goa. Jailer 2 will be making it to theaters worldwide on 12th of June next year in languages Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
Jailer had many cameos by superstars across industries in the likes of Mohanlal, Shiva Rajkumar, and Jackie Shroff. Kannada superstar Shiva Rajkumar is currently busy promoting his upcoming Kannada film 45 crafted by Arjun Janya. He recently sat down for an interview with a leading YouTube channel to promote the project. Talking in the interview about Jailer 2 he revealed he will have a bigger role this time.
Speaking in the show he divulged, “Jailer 2 will resume from where it ended in the first installment. My cameo in the first was brief. But in the second part I have an extended cameo appearance. I will start to shoot for Jailer 2 next week. I also have a schedule in the second week of January 2026.” In the show he was asked why Tamil actors are not seen in such cameo roles in Kannada cinema. He responded, “The trend has just begun. You will soon start seeing such cameos often in Kannada films as well.”

Apart from Rajinikanth, S J Suryah, and Ramya Krishnan, the ensemble cast of Jailer 2 also has Bollywood actress Vidya Balan, Suraj Venjaramoodu, Meghana Raj Sarja, Santhanam, Bagavathi Perumal, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa Menon, Vijay Suran, Arshad, Praveen Gadkar, Kottayam Nazeer, Sujith Shanker, Abhishek Mishra, Rithu Rocks Rithvik, Sunil Sukhada, and Anna Rajan portraying various supporting roles. Telugu star Nandamuri Balakrishna, Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty, and Malayalam actor Vinayakan will be seen in cameo roles.
Music director Anirudh Ravichander has been signed in to take care of the musical division of the drama. This marks his sixth association with superstar Rajinikanth following their runaway hits in Petta, Darbar, Jailer, Vettaiyan, and Coolie. Cinematographer Vijay Kartik Kannan is overseeing the cinematography department of the venture.
Editor R Nirmal has been brought on board to bring coherence to the film. Art director D R K Kiran is designing the background for the movie. Stunt directors Chethan Dsouza and Kevin Kumar are choreographing action blocks for the entertainer. Jailer 2 is bankrolled by Kalanithi Maran under the banner house Sun Pictures.
On the professional side, actor Rajinikanth will soon begin to shoot for his next movie tentatively titled Thalaivar 173 which is touted to be directed by Ramkumar Balakrishnan.
On the other hand, actor S J Suryah is enthusiastically expecting successive releases via Love Insurance Kompany directed by story teller Vignesh Shivan in which he has costarred with actors Pradeep Ranganathan, Krithi Shetty, & Gouri G Kishan, and Sardar 2 crafted by director P S Mithran in which he has partnered with actors Karthi, Rajisha Vijayan, & Malavika Mohanan. The Veera Dheera Sooran star is now working on his next venture Bro Code scripted by Karthik Yogi in which he will be seen alongside actor Ravi Mohan.
