Actor Suriya lastly entertained audiences in the romantic action thriller Retro helmed by Karthik Subbaraj with actress Pooja Hegde in the female lead role. The Kanguva actor is now getting ready for the release of his next action film christened Karuppu. Actor RJ Balaji, who co-directed his previous entertainers Mookuthi Amman and Veetla Vishesham, is set to make his solo directorial debut with the drama. He has sought the assistance of writers Ashwin Ravichandran, Karan Aravind Kumar, Rahul Raj, and T S Gopi Krishnan to pen the story.
Actress Trisha Krishnan has been cast as the female lead in the movie. This is her fourth collaboration with actor Suriya after Aaytha Ezhuthu, Mounam Pesiyadhe, and Aaru. The shoot for the entertainer took place across multiple locations in Chennai, Coimbatore, Pollachi, and Hyderabad. The makers have released a special poster from the film on social media as a New Year treat.

The special poster shared by the actor has him donning a black shirt with a handlebar mustache holding a sickle supported at the back of his neck. Karuppu is set against a rural backdrop. Actor Suriya has played a character named Saravanan in the entertainer.
The teaser which was released earlier showed actor Suriya as a convivial combatant who socializes and dances around in the village while also thrashing up henchmen. The teaser is very much in line with actor Suriya’s Vel and Singam. Aficionados of the star who relish seeing him charged up seem to be in for a great visual treat.
Musician A R Rahman was originally announced as the music composer of the drama. But due to other commitments he quit the project. He was replaced by music director Sai Abhyankkar who made a spectacular debut in Pradeep Ranganathan’s Dude. Already a single titled, ‘God Mode’ in the lyrics of Vishnu Edavan sung by Sai Abhyankkar & Gana Muthu is out from the album.
Besides Suriya and Trisha Krishnan, the star cast of the drama also has actors Sshivada, Yogi Babu, Natty Subramaniam, Swasika, Indrans, Anagha Maaya Ravi, and Supreeth Reddy depicting various supporting roles. RJ Balaji will be seen in a cameo part. Cinematographers G K Vishnu and Kiran Kaushik have worked in tandem to capture the flick.
Editor R Kalaivanan has been bestowed with the responsibility to trim the venture. Art director Narendran has fashioned the background for the flick. Action directors Anbu, Arivu, and Vikram Mor have engineered action moves for the film. The entertainer is bankrolled by S R Prakash Babu and S R Prabhu under their banner house Dream Warriors Pictures. The satellite rights of the movie have been acquired by Zee Tamil.
On the work front, actor Suriya is presently occupied in his future projects tentatively titled Suriya 46 crafted by Venky Atluri in which he will be performing alongside actress Mamitha Baiju, Suriya 47 filmed by Jithu Madhavan in which he will be associating with actress Nazriya Nazim, and Vaadivaasal scripted by Vetrimaaran.
On the other hand, actress Trisha Krishnan will next be seen on screens in Telugu in Vishwambhara directed by Mallidi Vassishta in which she has co-starred with actor Chiranjeevi. The Leo actress is now working on her next movies Maasani Amman scripted by RJ Balaji, and a Malayalam venture Ram filmed by Jeethu Joseph in which she will be sharing screen space with actor Mohanlal.
