Actor Suriya was last seen on screen in the epic fantasy action drama Kanguva helmed by Siruthai Siva with actress Disha Patani as female lead. The Jai Bhim actor is now eagerly anticipating the release of his upcoming romantic action film Retro. Director Karthik Subbaraj has written and directed the flick. Actress Pooja Hegde of Beast fame has essayed the female lead role in the entertainer. The project was shot in and around the surroundings of Ooty, Kerala, Port Blair, and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. Retro is scheduled to release worldwide in theaters on 1st of May in languages Tamil, Telugu, and Hindi. In a recently held audio launch function the makers released the trailer of the movie. They have now unveiled the trailer on social media. Taking to their official X account, the team of 2D Entertainment dropped a special poster along with links to the trailer of Retro in languages Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and wrote, “A Love that waits, Laughter that maims and a War that liberates. Nearly three minute long trailer of Retro begins with a character saying, “Welcome, welcome, welcome . . . in ten minutes deer biriyani will be ready. But we will have to run a show in the meantime.” We are then introduced to Suriya, who asks his gang, “Can we run the show?” The shot cuts to a slew of violence. Following which we have an eccentric character expressing, “The high that war gives is ecstatic. The blood, fight . . . instead peace, democracy, saying leave everything and be in home, eat and sleep . . .” We have a funny shot where actor Nassar asks in rage, “Can’t an old man sleep peacefully?” Star cast of Retro also includes actors Prakash Raj, Nandita Das, Jayaram, Joju George, Nassar, Karunakaran, George Maryan, Prem Kumar, Krishnakumar Balasubramanian, Thamizh, Tarak Ponnappa, Sandeep Raj, Uday Mahesh, MD Asif, Singampuli, Sujith Shankar, Ramachandran Durairaj, Vidhu, Murugavel, and Remya Suresh. Actress Shriya Saran will appear for an item number.
Musician Santhosh Narayanan has handled musical instruments for the song. Already three numbers ‘Kannadi Poove’, ‘Kanimaa’, and ‘The One’ are out from the album. Cinematographer Shreyaas Krishna has cranked the camera for the movie. Editor Shafique Mohamed Ali has been brought on board to work on the editing division of the entertainer. Art directors Jacki and Mayapandi have fashioned backgrounds for the venture. Stunt master Kecha Khamphakdee has choreographed action blocks for the project. Retro is backed by Jyothika and Suriya under their production label 2D Entertainment in collaboration with Kalyan Subramanian for the production label Stone Bench Films. B Sakthivelan of Sakthi Film Factory will be releasing the entertainer in Tamil Nadu.
On the professional side, actor Suriya is currently focused on his future flick tentatively christened Suriya 45 directed by RJ Balaji in which he will be teaming up with actors Trisha Krishnan, Sshivada, Swasika, and Natty Subramaniam. The NGK actor will soon begin to shoot for the much-anticipated film Vaadivaasal under Vetrimaaran. On the other hand, actress Pooja Hegde will next be seen in a cameo in Rajinikanth’s Coolie scripted by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The beast actress is presently shooting for a couple of Tamil entertainers Jana Nayagan filmed by H Vinoth in which she will be romancing actor Vijay, Kanchana 4 crafted and headlined by Raghava Lawrence, and a Hindi flick Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai helmed by David Dhawan in which she will be co starring with actor Varun Dhawan.
