Actor Vijay Sethupathi had his last outing in the romantic action-comedy movie Thalaivan Thalaivii helmed by Pandiraj with Malayalam actress Nithya Menen as female lead. The Ace actor is now eagerly awaiting the release of his maiden Tamil web series titled Kaattaan. Story teller M Manikandan, who has created a reputation for himself with his terrific craft in Kaaka Muttai and Kadaisi Vivasayi, has penned and crafted the film.
Bollywood actor Milind Soman, who is acquainted with the Tamil audience via his roles in Paiyaa and Pachaikili Muthucharam, has portrayed a key character in the venture. The shoot for the entertainer extensively took place in Malaysia and parts of Kerala. The series will be available for streaming on Jio Hotstar from early 2026. The makers are expected to announce the release date soon. The production house has now launched a glimpse video from the drama.
Taking to their official X account, the production team of Jio Hotstar unveiled the glimpse video of Kaattaan and captioned it, “Every crime has a story. Every story has a truth. The nearly one-minute-long glimpse video of Kaattaan opens to actor Vijay Sethupathi in a lungi and black shirt, hurling a broken brick into what appears to be a village function. He then walks into the place with a sickle, places it in the neck of a man and tells him, “Shivettan has sent me.” Following which he hacks him to death.
Kaattaan is hyped to be a gangster drama set in the rural backdrop. Originally, the project was titled Muthu Engira Kaatan. Later it was renamed as Kaattaan. Story tellers M Manikandan and Vijay Sethupathi have already delivered two brilliant works in Aandavan Kattalai and Kadaisi Vivasayi. The latter won a National Film award. Hence, there are massive expectations on this project.
Actor Vijay Sethupathi is not new to digital space. He has already made his debut in the space with his role in the Hindi series Farzi alongside actors Shahid Kapoor, Kay Kay Menon, and Raashii Khanna. The web series was crafted by directors Raj and DK.
Apart from Vijay Sethupathi and Milind Soman, the star cast of the venture also has Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff of Aaranya Kaandam fame, Balaji Shaktivel, Risha Jacob, Singampuli, Gemini Mani, Ayali Abhi, and VJ Parvathy in various supporting parts. The musical division of the entertainer has been handed over to music director Rajesh Murugesan. Cinematographer M Sukumar has been behind the lens for the series.
Editor Pradeep E Ragav has been bestowed with the responsibility to edit the venture. Art director Immanuel Jackson has engineered sets for the project. Acting director Kalai Kingson has choreographed action blocks for the drama. The movie is funded by Vijay Sethupathi himself in affiliation with Arunmugakumar under the production house 7 Cs Entertainment.
On the professional side, actor Vijay Sethupathi has a couple of flicks lined up in his pipeline for release in Train scripted by Mysskin in which he will be seen alongside actors Ira Dayanand, Narain, & Nassar, and Pisasu 2 also directed by Mysskin in which he has costarred with actresses Andrea Jeremiah and Poorna. The Maharaja actor is now working on his future projects Arasan helmed by auteur Vetri Maaran in which he will be collaborating with actor Silambarasan, and an untitled pan Indian movie directed by Telugu story teller Puri Jagannadh in which he will be sharing screen space with Bollywood actress Tabu and Kannada actor Duniya Vijay.
