Earlier talking about the venture to a leading daily, director C R Manikandan revealed, “As the title suggests, the plot is predicated on the long-lost cultural practice called Moi Virundhu. Today, if we need money, we approach the banks. But in those days, particularly in and around the regions of Pattukkottai and Peravurani in Thanjavur, people used to organize a feast to raise money.”
Speaking further, he said, “Interestingly, not everyone can arrange a feast. Only people who have impeccable reputation in the locality can host one. Their reputation is what acts as today’s CIBIL score.” Explaining why he opted to make a film out of it, he disclosed, “I realized that most people outside of Thanjavur are not even aware that such a practice existed in Tamil Nadu. Hence, I decided to make a movie about it.”
Describing the story of the flick, he said, “It follows a woman’s character who hails from the family that has the reputation of hosting such feasts. The family is known for hosting feasts for common good. And has never hosted a feast for themselves. However, they suffer a heavy loss and are forced to host one for themselves. The reason behind the loss and the emotional arc of having to organize a feast for themselves makes the crux of the story.”
The casting unit of Moi Virundhu also comprises actors Archana, Deepa Shankar, Sujatha Sivakumar, Arul Doss, Manasvi Kottachi, Namo Narayanan, Abarnithi, Kicha Ravi, Tiger Thangadurai, Lollu Sabha Maran, Gajaraj, and Muruganatham. Music director D Imman has scored music for the drama. Cinematographer M Sukumar has worked on the cinematography department of the movie.
Editor Bhuvan has been contracted to trim the entertainer. Art director T Ramalingam has erected sets for the project. Stunt master Sudesh Kumar has choreographed action blocks for the drama. Moi Virundhu is bankrolled by S Kamalakannan along with Vijay Bharathi K under the banner house SK Films International.
On the work side, actor Rakshan is currently busy shooting for his next flick Kannivedi helmed by Ganesh Raj in which he will be sharing screen space with actress Keerthy Suresh and Namita Krishnamurthy.
On the other hand, actress Ayesha Zeenath is presently focused on her future Tamil project Lawyer scripted by director Joshnu Sethuram in which she will be seen alongside actor Vijay Antony & Bollywood actress Raveena Tandon, and a Malayalam entertainer Dr Bennett helmed by T S Sabu in which she will be collaborating with actors Jins Joy and Kottayam Nazeer.
