Actor Suriya last graced the silver screens in the romantic action thriller Retro crafted by Karthik Subbaraj with actress Pooja Hegde as female lead. The Singam actor is now getting ready for the release of his next action entertainer Karuppu. Actor RJ Balaji will make his directorial debut with the flick. Writers Karan Aravind Kumar, Ashwin Ravichandran, Rahul Raj, and T S Gopi Krishnan have helped in structuring the flow of the film.
Actress Trisha Krishnan has portrayed the female lead part in the venture. It will be her fourth collaboration with actor Suriya after their association in Aaytha Ezhuthu, Mounam Pesiyadhe, and Aaru. Karuppu was shot across various places in Chennai, Pollachi, Coimbatore, and Hyderabad. The venture is poised to hit the screens worldwide on 14th of May. The production team has been releasing singles from the project on social media. They have now dropped the trailer of the venture.
Taking his official X handle, the production team of Dream Warrior Picture unveiled a special poster along with a link to the trailer of Karuppu and wrote, “PEAK SAMBHAVAM LOADING. Karuppu in theaters worldwide from May 14!! A Sai Abhyankkar Musical. The nearly three minutes odd trailer of Karuppu starts with a protest outside a court where people demand justice for the department of justice. Following which a character criticizes the protestors, “Half of those people are not even real lawyers. They are Baby Kannan’s kangaroo court team.”
The shot cuts to actress Trisha Krishnan asking RJ Balaji, “How long do you plan to keep going like this? One day, this place is bound to change.” To which he replies, “This is my domain. My court. Even if God himself shows up, he cannot change a thing.” Then we have the intro of actor Suriya, who mouths a punch dialogue, “I have been away for just a while and you dared to forget who I am?”
In a scene we witness him confronting RJ Balaji, “What was that you said? Even if God shows up, court procedures cannot be changed! Well, here I am! I am going to rip you apart!” Subsequently actor Natty Subramaniam tells RJ Balaji, “If it were some western God, we could at least plead for mercy! But this is Lord Karuppu! Karuppanna Saamy! He will hack us to pieces and grind our bones to dust!”
There is a shot where we see actor Suriya mocking RJ Balaji, “Bro, what will you do now? Are you going to try your hand at cricket commentary? But for that, you would need to know the game!” The trailer ends with actress Trisha Krishnan telling Suriya, “That was legendary.” To which he responds, “This is for all my beloved fans out there!”
Music director Sai Abhyankkar has composed music for the flick. Four numbers ‘God Mode’ crooned by Sai Abhyankkar & Gana Muthu lyrics penned by Vishnu Edavan, ‘Naanga Naalu Peru’ sung by Silambarasan lyrics inked by Asal Kolaar, ‘Raathu Raasan’ in the vocals of Sai Abhyankkar, V M Mahalingam, & Paal Dabba lyrics written by Vivek, and ‘Karuppa Kooda Va’ in the voice of Sai Abhyankkar & V M Mahalingam lyrics penned by Pa Vijay, is out from the album.
Star cast of the drama also includes actors Natty Subramaniam, RJ Balaji, Sshivada, Swasika, Yogi Babu, Anagha Maaya Ravi, Jafar Sadiq, Indrans, Supreeth Reddy, and Mansoor Ali Khan. Cinematographers G K Vishnu and Kiran Kaushik have been behind lens for the project. Editor R Kalaivanan has been contracted to trim the film.
Art director Narendran has designed the background for the movie. Stunt masters Anbu, Arivu, and Vikram Mor have choreographed action blocks for the film. Karuppu is produced by S R Prakash Babu and S R Prabhu under the production banner Dream Warriors Pictures. Zee Tamil has obtained the satellite rights of the entertainer.
On the work front, actor Suriya will soon have his next release in Vishwanath & Sons scripted by Venky Atluri in which he has worked with actress Mamitha Baiju. The Jai Bhim actor is now engaged in his upcoming flick tentatively titled Suriya 47 helmed by Jithu Madhavan in which he will be collaborating with actress Nazriya Nazim, an untitled film under the direction of Mari Selvaraj, and Vaadivaasal crafted by Vetrimaaran.
On the other hand, actress Trisha Krishnan will next be seen in Telugu cinema in Vishwambhara directed by Mallidi Vassishta in which she has starred with actor Chiranjeevi. The Nayagi actress is now busy with her future drama Maasani Amman scripted by RJ Balaji, a Malayalam drama Ram filmed by Jeethu Joseph in which she will be joining forces with actor Mohanlal, and a Hindi entertainer The Bull helmed by Vishnuvardhan in which she will be seen alongside actor Salman Khan.
