Two minute trailer of Black opens to actress Priya Bhavani Shankar calling for help via a call, “Hello emergency, we are in danger. We need help. Can you hear me?” The shot cuts to the actress lying unconscious on a floor. We are then presented with a scene where the actress asks Jiiva, “Okay tell me what is your vacation plan? To drink and sleep. It doesn’t matter where you do it. Just do it here.” The couple then moves to a secluded beachside posh villa as the first occupant. Soon they start to experience paranormal activities. They try to flee the community. The trailer ends with actor Jiiva in a police station being told by a cop, “If a husband comes with a missing wife complaint after seven years of marriage, do you know who is the first suspect? It is the husband.”
Earlier talking to a popular media house, director K G Balasubramani said, “Black is a story that transpires over a night. The darkness of the night might be taken as Black. In other view, black could be used to refer to the dark side of things that we keep from people even who are dear to us. The film will treat this as its core theme.” Apart from Jiiva and Priya Bhavani Shankar, the cast of Black also has actors Vivel Prasanna, Yog Japee, Sha Ra, and Swayam Siddha portraying various supporting characters.
