Jiiva’s Thagappan Locks A Release Window!

Actor Jiiva last graced the silver screens via a cameo appearance in the Telugu movie S Saraswathi scripted and headlined by Varalaxmi Sarathkumar with actors Prakash Raj and Priyamani in the lead roles. The Sangili Bungili Kadhava Thorae actor is now busy shooting for his next family drama christened Thagappan. Director Ra Venkat, who garnered the attention of audiences in Kida, has written and is helming the film. 

Actress Rajisha Vijayan of Jai Bhim fame will be seen in the female lead role in the movie. The film marks their first collaboration. Actors Lakshmy Ramkrishanan and Kesav will be portraying pivotal characters in the flick. We had recently reported that the project began filming in Madurai after the team offered prayers at Karuppusamy temple. We now have news that the venture will be arriving in theaters in the month of December this year. The production house themselves has announced the news on social media. 

Taking to his official X timeline, actor Jiiva himself shared a couple of special posters from Thagappan and captioned it, “Everything is fair in a father’s love. Presenting the world Thagappan! In Cinemas December 2026. Lark Studios, Jiiva, Rajisha Vijayan, Lakshmy Ramkrishanan, Ra Venkat, M Sukumar, Nagooran R, Mahesh Mathew, Bala Kumar, Dinesh Ashok, T Uday Kumar, Prithivi Pradeep, Kumar K, Think Music, Yuvraaj.” Here is the post made by the star. 

One of the special posters has actors Jiiva and Kesav, in traditional attire sitting in front of a courthouse. Another poster has them seated on the staircase of a Karuppusamy temple where actor Jiiva tries to remove the coconut flesh for his son Kesav. The first look poster of the drama, which was released recently, featured the deity of Karuppusamy in a dark red setting, surrounded by large billhooks planted in the ground. 

Thagappan is set against the backdrop of Madurai, where it captures the poignant bond between a father and son. The story of the entertainer is said to thread on intricate family dynamics, human values, and traditions on the land. 

The first shooting schedule for the project is currently underway in Madurai, and is calendared to take place over two weeks in several places. The makers are eyeing to wrap the shoot for the entertainer by the end of September. The production unit is tightlipped about the rest of the actors that will round out the cast. An official list of artists in the movie is expected to be publicized soon. 

On the technical side of the flick, music director Marshall Robinson has been roped in to compose music for the venture. Cinematographer M Sukumar is taking care of the cinematography division of the flick. Editor Nagooran Ramachandran has been bestowed with the responsibility to bring coherence to the movie. 

Art director K B Nandhabalan is designing the background for the entertainer. Action director Mahesh Mathew is serving as the stunt coordinator for the project. The movie is bankrolled by K Kumar under his home banner Lark Studios. 

On the professional front, actor Jiiva is starring at consecutive releases in Jolliya Iruntha Oruthan created by M Rajesh in which he has costarred with actress Ivana, and Golmaal helmed by Ponkumaran in which he has teamed up with actresses Tanya Hope & Payal Rajput. The Coffee With Kadhal actor is now engrossed in his next venture provisionally titled Jiiva 46 directed by K G Balasubramani in which he will be featuring with actress Rabiya Khatoon, and a Hindi drama The Saga Of Rashtriya Rifles crafted by Manzoor Ahmad in which he will be seen alongside actors Fahmaan Khan, Ashutosh Rana, & Urvashi Rautela. 

On the other hand, actress Rajisha Vijayan will soon have a release in Tamil cinema via Sardar 2 filmed by P S Mithran in which she has worked with actors Karthi, S J Suryah, & Malavika Mohanan, two releases in Malayalam cinema via Bachelor Party D’eux scripted by Amal Neerad in which she has joined forces with actors Sreenath Bhasi, Naslen, & Soubin Shahir, and Khalifa helmed by Vysakh in which she has performed alongside actors Prithviraj Sukumaran, Mohanlal, & Tovino Thomas.
