Vijay Sethupathi’s Kaattaan Teaser: A Raw Intense Dark Comedy Gangster Drama!

Actor Vijay Sethupathi last graced the silver screens in Gandhi Talks helmed by Kishor Pandurang Belekar with actors Arvind Swamy and Aditi Rao Hydari in lead roles. The Maharaja actor will soon have a release in the digital space via his maiden Tamil web series christened Kaattaan. Director M Manikandan, who garnered audience attention with Kaaka Muttai and Kadaisi Vivasayi, has directed the entertainer along with B Ajithkumar. The story credit has been accredited to Manikandan.

Bollywood actor Milind Soman, who played a baddie in Paiyaa and Pachaikili Muthucharam, is said to have played the antagonist part in the entertainer. The series was predominantly shot in various regions of Malaysia and parts of Kerala. The series is poised to premiere on Jio Hotstar from 27th of March. Earlier the makers had released a glimpse video from the entertainer on social media. They have now unveiled the teaser of the series.  

Taking to his official X account, actor Vijay Sethupathi unveiled the teaser of Kaattaan and wrote, “Hotstar Specials, Muthu Engira Kaattaan streaming from March 27 only on Jiohotstar. Nearly one minute teaser of Kaattaan opens to a scenic hilly milieu to a character enquiring, “Bro . . . who is that over there? What are you doing behind the rocks? Get up and come out bro! Bro, just come out of there!” He gets perplexed when he finds a man’s severed head. He starts bolting screaming, “Oh my god . . . Dead Body. Dead body!” 

Then we have the voiceover of actor Vijay Sethupathi, “Hey dummy! This is my head. You must find where the body is.” Police begin their investigation. The voiceover continues, “You are short of time guys. Search, search! Search the town! Search the forest! Search the hills! Search the sea! Even after searching everywhere . . . do you think you can find Kaattaan? You are not searching for Kaattaan . . . Kaattaan is the one who came for you.” 

Kaattaan is based on a gangster theme set in the rural background. The series was originally intended to be a film with Muthu Engira Kaatan as title. Eventually it evolved into a series and was named as Kaattaan. Director M Manikandan and Vijay Sethupathi previously dished out two masterpieces in Aandavan Kattalai and Kadaisi Vivasayi. The latter went on to bag the National Film award

Casting crew of the film also comprises Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff of Aaranya Kaandam fame, Kalaivani Bhaskar, Muthukumar, Balaji Shaktivel, Risha Jacob, Sudev Nair, Singampuli, Gemini Mani, Milind Usha Sonam, Ayali Abhi, and VJ Parvathy. Music director Rajesh Murugesan has scored music for the series. Cinematographer M Sukumar has taken care of the cinematography department of the series. 

Editor Pradeep E Ragav has been hired to work on the editing division of the drama. Art directors Immanuel Jackson and Sabu Mohan have designed backgrounds for the flick. Stunt master Kalai Kingson has fashioned action moves for the film. The series is bankrolled by Vijay Sethupathi himself under the production company VSP Productions along with Arunmugakumar for the banner house 7 Cs Entertainment. 

On the professional side, actor Vijay Sethupathi is staring at successive release in Train helmed by Mysskin in which he has associated with actors Ira Dayanand, Narain, & Nassar, Pisasu 2 also crafted by Mysskin in which he has collaborated with actresses Andrea Jeremiah & Poorna, and a Telugu flick Slum Dog: 33 Temple Road filmed by Puri Jagannadh in which he has featured alongside Bollywood actress Tabu and Kannada actor Duniya Vijay. The Ace actor is currently busy shooting for his next film Arasan directed by Vetri Maaran in which he will be partnering with actor Silambarasan, and for a cameo in Jailer 2 scripted by Nelson Dilipkumar in which he will be seen alongside actor Rajinikanth and Mithun Chakraborty.
