Actor Ravi Mohan last graced the silver screens earlier this year in the romantic comedy drama Kadhalikka Neramillai which hit theaters under the direction of Kiruthiga Udhayanidhi with actress Nithya Menen as female lead. The Ponniyin Selvan star is now engaged in his next political venture titled Karathey Babu. Director Ganesh K Babu, who shot to fame with the critically acclaimed movie Dada, is directing the drama. He has written the story of the entertainer along with writers Rathna Kumar and Bakkiyam Sankar. Daudee S Jiwal, model and daughter of Tamil Nadu DGP Shankar Jiwal, is set to make her debut in Tamil cinema with her female lead role in the film. Shakthi Vasudevan, actor and son of P Vasu, will be seen in a pivotal role. The movie is in its final leg of shooting. It is expected to be wrapped by the end of August.

Meanwhile, actor Ravi Mohan recently sat down for an interview with a popular YouTube channel in the state. Speaking about his character in Karathey Babu, he said, “I attempt to do something different with each role that I pick. My part in the film will be quite different from what people have seen me do so far. My director Ganesh K Babu is an excellent storyteller. You will see that in the movie. I am sure Karathey Babu will be one of the most important projects in my career.” Talking further he revealed, “The shoot for the drama is very close to the finishing stage. We should be able to wrap the venture in a month or two.” Karathey Babu is rumored to be based on the life of Minister of Hindu religious charitable endowment department, P K Sekar Babu.
Actor Jiiva was supposed to headline the venture. Later actor Dhruv Vikram was speculated to be the lead. Eventually the production team went with actor Ravi Mohan. Apart from Ravi Mohan, Shakthi Vasudevan, and Daudee S Jiwal, the ensemble cast of Karathey Babu also has actors Nassar, K S Ravikumar, Subramaniam Siva, VTV Ganesh, Pradeep Antony, Kavithalayaa Krishnan, Raja Rani Pandian, Knife Naren, Sandeep Raj, Ajith Gosh, Sindhupriya, Sam Anderson, Kalki Raja, Aravindh, Sri Dhanya, Anandhi, Ilan, Nandhini Senthamizh, and Vetrivel essaying various supporting roles.
Initially, musician Harris Jayaraj was announced as the film’s composer. But due to personal reasons he opted out of the project. Music director Sam C S, who previously composed music for actor Ravi Mohan’s Adanga Maru and Agilan replaced him. Cinematographer K Ezhil Arasu has been taking care of the cinematography department of the drama. Editor Kathiresh Alagesan has been signed in to chop and patch the movie. Art director A R Mohan has been designing sets for the project. Action director Hari Dinesh has been choreographing action blocks for the venture. Karathey Babu is backed by Sundar Arumugam under his home production Screen Scene Media Entertainment.
On the other hand, actor Ravi Mohan will next entertain audiences in the fantasy comedy film Genie filmed by story teller Bhuvanesh Arjunan in which he will be seen alongside actresses Krithi Shetty and Kalyani Priyadarshan. The Bhoomi actor is presently busy shooting for his next ventures Parasakthi directed by Sudha Kongara in which he will be co starring with actors Sivakarthikeyan, Atharvaa, Sreeleela, & Guru Somasundaram, and Thani Oruvan 2 helmed by director Mohan Raja in which he will once again be teaming up with actress Nayanthara.
