Actor Rajinikanth had a release last year in the action entertainer Vettaiyan helmed by T J Gnanavel with actors Amitabh Bachchan, Manju Warrier, Fahadh Faasil, and Rana Daggubati in pivotal roles. The Kabali actor is now eagerly anticipating the release of his upcoming mass action thriller Coolie. Story teller Lokesh Kanagaraj has written and directed the movie. Writer Chandhru Anbazhagan has written dialogues, and assisted in fine-tuning the screenplay of the project.
The entertainer marks the maiden collaboration of actress Shruti Haasan and Rajinikanth. Veteran actor Sathyaraj is said to have played the baddie in the drama. Coolie was shot across multiple locations in Chennai, Hyderabad, Visakhapatnam, Jaipur, and Bangkok. Coolie will be making it to theaters worldwide on 14th of August in languages Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
Star studded audio launch function of the drama recently took place in Chennai where the team also released the trailer of the flick. They have now shared the trailer on social media. Taking to his official X account, director Lokesh Kanagaraj himself dropped the trailer of Coolie and captioned it, “For the eternal love we all have, this is from all of us to you, Thalaivar Rajinikanth sir! Coolie Trailer. Coolie.” Here is the post made by the director.
The nearly three minutes long trailer of Coolie opens to the voiceover of actor Nagarjuna, “I think it is written on a man’s forehead while he is born at whose hands he should die.” It cuts to the voiceover of actor Soubin Shahir, “If people know that an individual can be abducted without leaving any trace of his existence. It can be a disaster.”
Then we have actor Kaali Venkat informing someone, “I do not think they made it big just by this network. There is something big within the network sir.” Then we have the intro of superstar Rajinikanth in an interesting fashion to the voiceover of Sathyaraj, “For 30 years I have kept someone offline. If he knows . . .”
In a shot actress Shruthi Haasan says to actor Rajinikanth, “You have learned to live alone for a long time. He is just a friend to you, but he is a dad to us.” To which he responds, “He may be your dad, but he is a friend to me.” The trailer ends with him mouthing, “Despite knowing about Deva, you have played with me.”
The ensemble cast of Coolie also comprises Tollywood star Nagarjuna, Kannada megastar Upendra, Kaali Venkat, Reba Monica John, Soubin Shahir, Kanna Ravi, Monisha Blessy, Rishikanth, and Junior MGR. Actress Pooja Hegde has danced for the sizzling number ‘Monica’. Bollywood actor Aamir Khan will be seen in a power packed cameo role in the entertainer. Coolie happens to be the fifth collaboration between music composer Anirudh Ravichander and superstar Rajinikanth after their sensational success in Petta, Darbar, Jailer, and Vettaiyan.
Cinematographer Girish Gangadharan has been behind lens for the venture. Editor Philomin Raj has been brought on board to chop and patch the film. Art director P Shanmugam has designed the background for the movie. Stunt directors Anbu and Arivu have fashioned action blocks for the entertainer. Coolie is bankrolled by Kalanithi Maran under the production label Sun Pictures.
On the professional side, actor Rajinikanth is busy with his upcoming film Jailer 2 filmed by Nelson Dilipkumar in which he will be co-starring with actors S J Suryah, Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, and Mirnaa Menon.
On the other hand, actress Shruti Haasan is enthusiastically expecting the release of Jana Nayagan directed by H Vinoth in which she has associated with actors Vijay & Pooja Hegde, and Train crafted by story teller Mysskin in which she has partnered with actor Vijay Sethupathi. The 7 Aum Arivu actress is working on her next Telugu drama Salaar: Shouryanga Parvam Part 2 directed by Prashanth Neel in which she will be seen alongside actor Prabhas.
