Director Arun Matheswaran is an interesting addition to Tamil cinema. The young talented filmmaker stunned the Tamil audience with his debut flick Rocky with actor Vasanth Ravi in the lead. The entertainer was bestowed with critical acclamations by the critics. He followed his work with Saani Kaayidham with actress Keerthy Suresh and Selvaraghavan in the lead roles. Even this time around the critics had the same response to his flick. On his journey to building a brand for himself he has been given the opportunity to direct actor Dhanush in his next project. The venture is titled Captain Miller. The story of the flick is set at the backdrop of the pre-independence era in 1930’s 1940’s in the Madras Presidency.
Film maker Arun Matheswaran has recently sat down for an interview with a leading media house in the state, and has shared things about the film. Talking on how Captain Miller’s journey began he said, “I penned the story of Captain Miller back in 2018. It was supposed to be bankrolled by producer T. G. Thyagarajan. I had approached Dhanush then to play the role. He went through the synopsis but nothing was finalized. Again, the project started to take pace in the subsequent year.” Speaking on whether or not even his third film will have the essence of his first two, he stated, “Captain Miller will be quite different from my first two projects. The world of Rocky and Saani Kaayidham is dark and intense. But here the film is based on a heroic character. Captain Miller is for a mainstream audience. But Rocky and Saani Kaayidham are not. I was aware of it even at the time of penning them. They were clean A rated films for an adult audience. Captain Miller, I guess will be U/A rated. As we have a good portion of action sequences.”
Speaking on why he went for actor Dhanush, he commented, “The central character of the flick was designed with an intention to make an action drama in a grand scale. I did not have any specific hero in mind when I started to pen the script. But as I went on, I felt that actor Dhanush would be a perfect fit to play the part. Personally, I like how he balances between being a popular star and a terrific performer. Captain Miller explores a life journey of over 15 years of its central character. There are a wide range of emotions and the transition part of a person’s life to be portrayed convincingly. I felt Dhanush would be able to do it perfectly.”
Talking further on the character, Arun Matheswaran revealed, “Captain Miller is Dhanush’s character. But apart from that he will be addressed with two other names. He will be seen in three different getups in the entertainer. It will be interesting.”
The music for the entertainer is composed by musician G. V. Prakash Kumar. Cinematographer Shreyas Krishna of Rocky fame will be seen behind the camera for the movie. The editing department of the movie has been handed over to editor Nagooran. The rest of the cast will be finalized and announced soon. The production unit has plans to shoot the flick in real locations across the nation, and launch it as a pan Indian drama in multiple languages.
