Actor Vijay Antony who has a reputation for picking up impressive projects had his last outing in the likes of the science fiction action flick Pichaikkaran 2 which hit the screens under his own directorial with actress Kavya Thapar in the female lead role. The flick was tagged with negative reviews by critics and audiences. Thus, it did not do well in the box office. The Kodiyil Oruvan actor has now moved on, and is gearing up for the release of his upcoming murder mystery drama titled Kolai. Actress Ritika Singh has essayed the female lead part. Story teller Balaji K Kumar of Vidiyum Mun fame has written and directed the entertainer. The project which went on floors with a small pooja ceremony a while back is now in the post production stage getting fine tuned for release.
Now, the production house has announced the release date of the flick on social media. Kolai is slated to hit the screens on 21st of July this year. Actor Vijay Antony himself has announced the news. Taking to his official twitter handle, actor Vijay Antony dropped a poster from the entertainer, and wrote, “Kolai releases on 21st July 2023.” Here is the tweet made by the musician.

The production house had released the trailer of the flick last year. The trailer had actor Vijay Antony dressed up in a Sherlock Holmes sort of attire, with a full coat and a hat trying to get a read on a case. The trailer set high anticipation for the movie among fans of investigative thrillers. Earlier speaking to a leading daily about the drama, director Balaji K Kumar said, “Kolai is inspired by the infamous murder of model Dorothy King. Vijay Antony essays the role of Vinayak, a detective who is working on solving the case.” Talking about his effort for the film, he stated, “I did nearly 40 rough drafts before finalizing the final piece of work. Since, it is an incident that took place in the 1920’s I had to be creative in giving it the color of a modern-day tale.” Speaking about the story, he revealed, “Kolai is about a beautiful model named Leila, who is found dead in her posh apartment. Five people who have personal beef with her, and have motives to want her dead visit her in her apartment right before her death. Vinayak is called on to crack the case.”
Apart from actors Vijay Antony and Ritika Singh, the casting division of the movie has actors Kishore Kumar, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Radhika Sarathkumar, Murali Sharma, Arjun Chidambaram, John Vijay, Samkit Bohra, and Siddhartha Shankar portraying various other supporting roles. Music director Girishh Gopalakrishnan has scored music for the drama. Cinematographer Sivakumar Vijayan has been behind the lens for the flick. Editor R. K. Selva has been bestowed with the responsibility to trim the movie. Art director K Aarusamy has designed the background for the film. Action director Mahesh Mathew has choreographed action moves for the venture. The project is funded by Kamal Borah, and Pankaj Borah under the banner house Infiniti Film Ventures along with B. Pradeep, and Lalitha Dhananjayan for the production banner Lotus Pictures.
On the work front, actor Vijay Antony who was last seen on screens in the action thriller Pichaikkaran 2 is currently busy shooting for his next venture christened Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan under the direction of storyteller Vijay Milton in which he will be collaborating with actress Megha Akash. Apart from this flick, the actor has Agni Siragugal crafted by director Naveen in which he has shared screen space with actor Arun Vijay, Ratham directed by film maker C S Amudhan in which he will be seen alongside actresses Remya Nambeesan, Nandita Swetha, and Mahima Nambiar, Valli Mayil crafted by story teller Suseenthiran in which he has costarred with actress Faria Abdullah, and Khaki helmed by director A. Senthil Kumar in various stages of post-production shaping up for release. On the other hand, actress Ritika Singh who had her last outing in Tamil in Oh My Kadavule is getting ready for the release of her next Malayalam movie King Of Kotha scripted by Abhilash Joshiy in which she has starred in an item number.
