Actor Vemal graced the silver screens last month in the action-comedy film Desingu Raja 2 crafted by Ezhil with actress Pujita Ponnada as female lead. The film drew negative reviews from critics, and had a poor run in the box office. The Thudikkum Karangal actor will soon begin to shoot for his upcoming rural sport drama titled Vadam. Debutant director V Kenthiran has penned the script, and will be helming the film. Writer Gnanakaravel has written dialogues for the movie.
Small screen actress Sangeetha Kalyankumar of Mangalya Sandhosham tv serial fame is set to make her debut in Kollywood with her female lead role in the flick. Actor Bala Saravanan will be playing actor Vemal’s sidekick in the entertainer. The project recently went on floors with a small pooja ceremony in Chennai. Both actor Vemal and Sangeetha Kalyankumar were seen facilitating a cow with a garland in the event.
The production house themselves has shared the news on social media. Taking to his official X account, music director D Imman dropped a special poster from the film and captioned it, “இதுவே நம் பாரம்பரியத்தின் அடையாளம். Vadam – a raw, rustic, and rooted tale about our pride, the traditional game of Vada Manjuvirattu, untold till now to the world with namma star Vemal! The special poster shared by D Imman has a backward shot of a bull’s horn decorated by flowers. The bull is seen looking at a pole that has a rope tied to it which is meant to bind it. Billed as a rural sports movie Vadam is set to be based on the traditional sport of Vada Manjuvirattu. The game is similar to Jallikattu (bull taming) where participants are required to tame a bull within a time frame.
The casting team of the venture is currently zeroing in on the rest of the artists that would round out the cast. An update regarding the same is expected to be made soon. Music director D Imman has been contracted to compose music for the movie. This project will mark the third association of him with actor Vemal after their successful outing in Desingu Raja and Oru Oorula Rendu Raja.
Cinematographer Prasanna S Kumar will be shouldering the camera for the flick. Editor Sabu Joseph has been brought on board to chop and patch the drama. Art director V Sasikumar will be designing the background for the project. Stunt master Murugan will be fashioning action blocks for the venture. The movie is funded by R Veerasekar under his home production Masani Pictures.
On the work side, actor Vemal is working on his upcoming movie tentatively christened Vemal 36 helmed by director Elson Eldhose & Maneesh K Thoppil, Belladonna crafted by story teller Santhosh Babu Muthusamy, and Manjal Kudai scripted by Sivam Rajamani in which he will be seen alongside actress Shirin Kanchwala. Apart from these films, the Pogumidam Vegu Thooramillai actor has few of his long-delayed entertainers Enga Pattan Sothu crafted by Sargunam in which he has collaborated with actress Anicka Vikhraman, Sandakkari directed by story teller Madhesh in which he has shared screen space with actress Shriya Saran, and Lucky helmed by director Prasanth Pandiyaraj in the shelves waiting to see the light of day.
