Actor Sasikumar was last seen on screens earlier this year in the black comedy film Tourist Family helmed by newbie director Abishan Jeevinth with veteran actress Simran as female lead. The drama drew positive reviews from critics and had a spectacular run in the box office. The Kaari actor is now gearing up for the release of his next Tamil Telugu bilingual movie titled Freedom.
Director Sathyasiva, who previously delivered Naan Mirugamaai Maara with actor Sasikumar, has inked and directed the flick. Malayalam actress Lijomol Jose of Jai Bhim fame has been cast against the actor in the project. Freedom is poised to hit the screens worldwide on 10th of July this year.
Earlier this year the production team had unveiled the teaser of the flick on social media. They have now dropped the trailer of the drama. Taking to his official X profile, actor Soori shared a special poster from the movie along with a link to the trailer of Freedom and wrote, “Get ready for a rollercoaster of emotions! Watch the intense trailer of Freedom, a gripping jailbreak thriller that will keep you on the edge. Freedom From July 10.” Here is the post made by the actor.
Two minutes odd trailer of Freedom opens in a police station to a cop asking a brutally beaten up Sasikumar, “Why did you come to India? What do you people need?” The shot cuts to a Sri Lankan Tamil refugee woman saying to Sasikumar, “My grandmother used to say that Sri Lanka became a cursed land after Raavanan abducted Sita. If Ramayana had never occurred, we would have not been a refugee. No Maara?”
Then we have a voiceover instructing, “We have to arrest all refugees who entered into India in the past six months.” Following which we are shown few glimpses of police brutality against Sri Lankan Tamil refugees. Violence ensues. We witness actor Sasikumar chopping off a hand of a man. He then says, “Why are you trying to kill us instead of finding the real culprits?” We then have actor Ramesh Khanna informing the refugees, “The investigation will not be over soon because the man who died was an ex-prime minister.”
Casting crew of the project also has actors Malavika Avinash, Saravanan, Sudev Nair, Ramesh Khanna, Boys Manikandan, Mu Ramasamy, and Bose Venkat in various supporting roles. Music composer Ghibran Vaibodha has been engaged to compose music for the film. The entertainer will mark his third collaboration with actor Sasikumar after their hits in Naan Mirugamaai Maara and Nandhan. Two singles titled ‘Aagayam Ambuttayum’ and ‘Aariro Arariro’ are already out from the album.
Cinematographer N S Uthayakumar has overseen the cinematography division of the flick. Editor N B Srikanth has been brought on board to chop and patch the drama. Art director C Uthayakumar has erected sets for the venture. Action directors Danger Mani, T Ramesh, and Don Ashok have fashioned action blocks for the movie. The flick is funded by Pandiyan Parasuraman in affiliation with Sujatha Pandiyan under the production label Vijaya Ganapathy’s Pictures.
On the work front, actor Sasikumar will soon have successive releases in Pagaivanuku Arulvai helmed by Anees in which he has joined forces with actresses Vani Bhojan & Bindhu Madhavi, Evidence crafted by Ranjith Manikandan, and Naa Naa scripted by N V Nirmal in which he has performed alongside actor Sarathkumar.
