Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu, the sports drama on one of the traditional sports of Tamil Nadu was the trend setting movie for sports dramas in Kollywood which paved way for sports entertainers like Vallinam, Irudhi Sutru, Ethir Neechal, Jeeva, and the latest Hip Hop Aadhi starrer Natpe Thunai. The success of the minimalist project incited confidence among many film makers and producers in the industry to make a complete sport based drama. Apart from being a trend setting film, the venture was a great launch pad for many artists like Vishnu Vishal, Soori, Kishore, Vijay Sethupathi and even for the director Suseenthiran.
In the year 2016 director Suseenthiran announced there will be sequel to Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu. But for some reasons the film which went on floors was shelved for some time. Now, the flick has been wrapped up and ready for release. The production unit has launched the trailer of the sports drama. The trailer of the venture looks similar to its prequel and does not seem to hold anything new to offer to the audience. It looks like the same story of a team of underdogs going all the way to establish a name for themselves. Though the story line seems to be similar, there are a few changes in terms of cast and making. The prequel had actor Vishnu Vishal end up dead, so the unit has roped in Vikranth to play the lead role while his love interest will be portrayed by Arthana Binu of Semma fame. And since film maker Suseenthiran got busy with numerous directorial projects, his long time associate Selva Sekaran had to direct the sequel of the hit project that gave him a big break. We will have to wait to see whether the sport drama gives a similar break to his associate Selva Sekaran.
Apart from Vikranth and Arthana Binu, the sport entertainer has Pasupathy, Kishore, Anupama Kumar, Soori, Appukutty, Ganja Karuppu, Aruldoss, and Ramesh Pandian in various other pivotal roles. The musical instruments for the venture will be handled by musician V. Selvaganesh. While E. Krishnasamy has been behind the camera for the movie, Ajay will be editing the project. The motion picture is produced by Poongavanam and Anandh under the banner Saai Arputham Cinemas. The sports drama is slated to hit the screens on 12th of this month.
On the work front, actor Vikranth who is gearing up for the release of Vennila Kabaddi Kuzhu 2 is busy shooting for his next movie named as Bakrid. The venture directed by film maker Jagadeesan Subu will have Vasundhara Kashyap as the female lead role, while Ali, Vaiyapuri, and H. L. Shrutika will be seen in various other supporting roles. A camel named Sarah is said to be seen in a pivotal role in the project. Apart from this, recently the actor again committed himself to a sports drama which will be penned by versatile actor Vijay Sethupathi in which he will be sharing the screen space with Vishnu Vishal.
